1. You are registering Mr B as a patient at your newly opened GP
practice. Mr B mentions he is suffering from an inherited disease but he cannot
recall the name. You note he has limbs which are disproportionately long for
his trunk. On closer examination you also find a high arched palate.
2. A 65 year old man presents
to your clinic. He complains of a dry mouth. You note he also has a ptosis and has suffered from a gradual onset of leg
weakness. On examination you find his leg reflexes are depressed however there
are signs of post-tetanic potentiation.
3. A 25 year old patient presents to your clinic. She complains of a dry
mouth and is unable to form tears. Her blood samples are sent to the lab where
it is confirmed that she tests positive for anti nuclear antibodies and
rheumatoid factor.
4. A distressed mother brings in her two year old son. The child is
noted to be pale, irritable with signs of poor wound healing. On closer
inspection you also discover gingival bleeding.
5. A student presents to your clinic. She reports malaise and a rash on
her face which has a ÔbutterflyÕ like appearance. On examination you also
discover lymphadenopathy and later a blood sample is
positive for anti nuclear antibodies.
